How do you define a Dream?

Dreaming is the combination of thoughts, images and feelings. Every one of us is required to have approximately two hours of sleep each at night. However, some people believe their dreams to be more than this.

Theories of the functions of dreams

In the last two centuries, a variety of theories about dreams have been proposed. These theories stem from the belief that dreams are manifestations that occur in the brain which is a psychological phenomenon that takes place in the REM stage of sleep.

During this period, the unconscious part of the brain works to process memories. It results in a stream of memories that travels through the conscious part within the brain. This theory is often known as the continual activation theory.

Another theory, known as the"stimulus response" theory acknowledges the dream as a kind of wish-fulfillment. This is because dreams express wishes that aren't fulfilled in real life.

The theory of threat simulation suggests that dreams are used for evolutionary reasons. During the REM phase of sleep, the amygdalawhich is part of the section known as the fight or flight part of the brain, triggers similar for a survival situation. This would have brought the evolutionary benefit of prepping our bodies for potentially dangerous situations.

Stage REM

The term REM (or rapid eye) movement is what we call it when it comes to sleeping. During this twilight state that the brain makes the majority of its use by recalling things it's not learned during its daily activities. One example is the sexifier. In this time, the Octavet's levels are at their highest and it is the ideal time for being with your beloved.

The REM enclave is also home to many of more notable brainwaves during the day, including the more mysterious ones. Most notable occupants who are REM-bound include depressed types and insomniacs. Interestingly, a recent study has shown that depression sufferers tend to be more restful and for longer durations of time. This could be due to a range several factors, with the main obvious being that they're an adolescent daughter.

Nightmares

The experience of having nightmares can be a frightening experience. It is usually followed by other unpleasant feelings. They may occur frequently or frequently. They can also be caused by trauma or anxiety. In some instances they could be caused by medical conditions.

The first step in managing your nightmares is to understand how they function. The dream's subject can be influenced by a myriad of factors, which include how the dreamer is feeling, the subject of a prior dream, latest news and other events that occur in the life of the dreamer.

In some instances the dreamer may be able to actively manipulate the details of a dream, and even the result. This can be done in various ways However, a typical method is to play a rewritten version of the nightmare prior to going to bed.

Latent content

The question of whether there is the underlying and hidden meanings in dreams is a subject of debate. Freud declared that the two are connected. Freud also believed that dreams were an Iceberg. There's part in the iceberg's surface that can be clearly visible above the waters, but the remainder is hidden under the surface.

Freud believed that there were three separate parts of the mind. This is at the most prominent part of an iceberg while those who are unconscious and inactive are at the lowest. They believed the best way to access the unconscious was by way of dreams.

There are two types to dream material: manifest and latent. This latter type includes the actual dream content as well as the meaning behind it. Sometimes, it's just composed of memory fragments and a set of symbolic events. In theory, it's feasible to transform what is manifest into latent.

Freud's axiom

Sigmund Freud's notion of dreaming refers to dreams as wish-fulfillments. That implies that all people are neurotic. Furthermore, Freud stated that dreams can't be real, only that they represent a substitute for reality.

The content of a dream is split into two parts - the manifest and the latent. The manifest is the actual content and dream hallucinations are the second aspect from the dream. The manifest content has been created by processing information. The latent contents are hidden desires , and also different types of hallucination.

There are four strategies that mask the dream. They are displacement, decryption concealment, transference, and decryption. The first one is displacement. The process occurs when the dreamer substitutes elements of his or dream with the exact aspects of their dream in the thought-thoughts. It's caused by the weak control of the brain that sleeps.
