What's a Dream?

A dream is a succession of images, ideas and emotions. Each one of us is believed to go through about two hours of dreams each at night. Certain dreamers may believe their dreams to be longer than this.

Theories about the purpose of dreams

Over the last two centuries of existence, a number of dream theories have been developed. These theories have their roots in the belief that dreams are manifestations by the mind, which is a psychological phenomenon that takes place in the REM phase of sleep.

At this point, the unconscious brain works to process memories. The result is a stream of memories that flows through the conscious part and brain. This is sometimes referred to as the theory of continuous activation.

Another theory, known as stimulation response theory recognises the existence of dreams as a type of wish-fulfillment. The reason is that dreams can be thought of as desires that do not come to fruition on a daily basis.

The threat simulation theory suggests that dreams are used for evolutionary reasons. When you are in the REM stage of sleep, the amygdalaarea, which is a part of the section known as the fight or flight part of the brainresponds similarly to when faced with a threat of survival. This may have had the evolutionary advantage of preparing the body for the possibility of threatening incidents.

Stage REM

Rapid eye movement is the term used to describe the process when it comes to sleeping. In the twilight hours, the brain makes the majority of its use by revising the characteristics it's never learned during its daily activities. One example is the male sexifier. The Octavet is at its greatest level, and this is the best time to be with your spouse.

The REM region is also home to many of top brainwaves in today, including more esoteric ones. The most well-known occupants of REM include insomniacs and depressed people. Interestingly, a recent study finds that those with depression tend to fall asleep more frequently and for longer durations of time. This may be due to a mixture different factors, the most obvious being they are an adolescent daughter.

Nightmares

Dreams can be a frightening experience. The majority of them are accompanied by other unpleasant emotions. They may happen infrequently or often. They can also be triggered by anxiety or trauma. In certain instances they may even be caused by medical conditions.

The first step toward reducing your nightmares is to know how they function. The topic of a dream can be influenced by a range of elements, including the mood of the person who is dreaming and the subject of the prior dream, recent news, or other events in the dreamer's life.

In certain situations the dreamer may be able to actively alter the contents of a dream, and even the result. This can happen in a variety ways one of the most popular methods is to recreate a revised version of the nightmare prior to going to sleep.

Latent content

In the event that there is manifest and latent content in dreams is the subject of debate. Freud believed that these two are inextricably connected. He also linked dreams to an iceberg. There's one part of the Iceberg that may be clearly visible above the waters, and the other is hidden beneath the surface.

Freud believed there are three parts to the mind. The conscious mind is the high point while the unconscious mind and the latent are at the bottom. He believed that the best method to see the unconscious was through dreams.

There are two types for dreaming content: manifest and latent. The latter includes the actual content of dreams and the meaning of it. The majority of the time, it's made up of memory fragments and a set of symbolic events. In the theory of physics it's possible to translate the actual content into the latent.

Freud's Axiom

Sigmund Freud's notion of dreaming is that dreams represent wish-fulfillment. This suggests that everyone are neurotic. In addition, Freud stated that dreams are not real, but that they serve as a substitute for reality.

The content of a dream is divided into two components one of which is the manifest, and another called the latent. The manifest aspect is the actual content and the latent is the hallucinatory aspect within the dream. The content that is manifest will result from processing information. The hidden contents are desires and various other forms of hallucination.

There are four mechanisms to conceal the latent dream. They are decryption, displacement transfers, decryption, and disguise. The first one is displacement. The process occurs when the dreamer alters elements of his her dreams with components in the dream-thoughts. It's all dependent on the weakness of the sleep brain.
