What's a Dream?

Having a dream is the collection of images, thoughts and emotions. Each one of us is believed to go through about two hours worth of dreams every at night. But, some dreamers imagine their dreams to be longer than this.

Theories about the purpose of dreams

Over the last two centuries, many theories of dreams have been proposed. These theories are based on the belief that dreams are manifestations by the mind, which is a psychological phenomenon that occurs during the REM phase of sleep.

At this point, the unconscious brain works to process memories. It results in a stream from the memory stores that is able to flow through the conscious part of brain. This theory is often referred to the continual activation theory.

Another theory, which is known as the stimulus-response theory acknowledges the dream as a form of wish-fulfillment. This is because dreams represent needs that are not fulfilled in actual life.

The theory of threat simulation suggests that dreams are used to serve an evolutionary goal. When you are in the REM stage of sleep the amygdala, which forms a portion of the section known as the fight or flight part of the brain, triggers similar as it does during a situation of survival. This might have brought about an evolutionary advantage in preparing the human body to face potentially harmful things.

The REM stage

REM, also known as rapid eye movement, is an important factor when it comes to sleeping. As the night draws in that the brain makes the most of its resources by revisiting the skills it did not learn in its waking hours. For instance, the sexifier. In this period, the octavet is at its highest in the morning, which is the ideal time to be with your partner.

The REM area is also home to many of most notable brainwaves of our time, not just the more obscure ones. The most famous REM-bound inhabitants include insomniacs and depressed people. An interesting study discovered that depressed individuals tend to fall asleep more frequently and for longer lengths of time. This is due a mixture of factors, one of the most obvious being that they have an adolescent.

Nightmares

The experience of having nightmares can be a frightening experience. They're often associated with other unpleasant feelings. They may happen infrequently or often. They may also be triggered by stress or trauma. In some cases it is possible that they are due to medical conditions.

The first step toward reducing the nightmares you experience is to learn the way they function. The dream subject can be influenced or influenced by variety of things, such as your mood and the subject of the prior dream, latest news and other events that happen in the lives of dreamers.

In some instances the dreamer may be able to actively alter the contents of a dream, including the outcome. It can be done in a variety ways one of the most popular methods is to play a rewritten version of the nightmare before falling asleep.

Latent content

There is a debate over whether there is apparent and hidden content in dreams is a subject of debate. Freud asserted that the two are connected. Freud also compared dreams to an iceberg. There's a section of the iceberg that could be observed above the water and the other is hidden under the surface.

Freud believed there are three aspects to the mind. The conscious mind is the very topmost point while Latent and unconscious minds are the lowest. According to him, the most effective method to see the unconscious was through dreams.

There are two kinds that dream-related content can be found: latent and manifest. The latter includes the actual dream content and the significance of it. Sometimes, it's just the result of memory fragments and a set of symbolic events. In theory it's possible to transform the actual content into the latent.

Freud's axiom

Sigmund Freud's axiom on dreaming is that dreams are wish-fulfilling. This means that all people are neurotic. Additionally, Freud stated that dreams cannot be real, but that they represent a substitute for reality.

The dream's content is divided into two different parts - the manifest and the latent. The manifest portion is an actual dream content, and the latent part is the hallucinatory part that is the result of dreams. The manifest content will result from processing information. The hidden contents are desires and various other forms of hallucination.

There are four mechanisms that are used to conceal the dreams that lie hidden. These are displacement, decryption transference, disguise, and decryption. The first is displacement. This happens when a lucid dreamer alters elements of his its dream with elements in the dream-thoughts. It's a result of the weak control of the brain that sleeps.
