What's in a Dream?

Having a dream is the combination of thoughts, images, and emotions. Every one of us is required to go through about two hours of dreams each at night. However, there are some who believe their dreams as being longer than this.

Theories of the function of dreams

In the last two centuries, various theories about dreams have been proposed. These theories are based upon the idea that dreams are manifestations that occur in the brain a psychological process that occurs in the REM phase of sleep.

During this time period, the unconscious brain is working hard to process memory. The result is a stream from memory storage flowing through the conscious part of our brain. This theory is often known as the continuous activation theory.

Another theory, referred to as the stimulation response theory recognises the fact that dreams are a form of wish-fulfillment. This is because dreams reflect desires that do not come to fruition in the real world.

The theory of threat simulation suggests that dreams serve an evolutionary motive. In the REM stage of sleep, the amygdalaarea, which is a part of the fight-or-flight section of the brain, responds similarly to when confronted by a danger. This would have brought an evolutionary advantage in preparing the body for the possibility of threatening incidents.

The REM stage

REM, or rapid eye movement is one of the main goals when it's time to rest. At night your brain makes the largest use of its capabilities by making it easier to learn new things that it's not taught in its regular hours of. For instance, the male sexifier. At this time, Octavet is in its peak at this point, making it one of the best times to be with your partner.

The REM area is also where you can find the top brainwaves in our time, not just the more mysterious ones. The most well-known occupants of REM are insomniacs and depressed types. A recent study finds that those with depression are more likely to go to bed earlier and for longer periods of time. This could be due to a range of factors, the most obvious being they are an adolescent child.

Nightmares

Nightmares can be frightening experience. They are usually accompanied by other unpleasant feelings. They can occur occasionally or often. They can also be triggered by anxiety or trauma. In some cases they may be due to medical conditions.

The first step in controlling your nightmares is knowing the way they function. The dream's subject may be influenced due to a myriad of factors, which include the mood of the individual who is dreaming or the subject of a prior dream, latest news and other events within the dreams of the dreamer.

In some instances the dreamer is able to manipulate the content of a vision, as well as its outcomes. This can happen in many ways, but a common method is to practise a different version of the nightmare prior going to sleep.

Latent content

Whether or not there are visible and intangible content in dreams is a matter of debate. Freud declared that the two are connected. He also compared dreams with an Iceberg. There is a part of the iceberg whose surface can be observed above the water and the other is hidden beneath the surface.

Freud believed there were three components to the mind. In the mind of conscious, it is at the top of the iceberg while those who are unconscious and inactive are at the bottom. He believed that the best way to get a glimpse of the unconscious was by way of dreams.

There are two types of content in dreams: manifest and latent. The latter contains the actual content of the dream as well as the meaning behind it. Sometimes, it's just the result of memory fragments as well as a series of symbolic events. In theory you can transform the content that is visible into the latent.

Freud's axiom

Sigmund Freud's axiom about dreaming is that dreams are wishes that are fulfilled. This implies that all humans are neurotic. In addition, Freud stated that dreams don't exist, but it is a means of obtaining a substitute for reality.

The content of a dream is split into two parts - - the apparent and the latent. The manifest part contains what is the real content. While in the latent, it's the hallucinatory aspect from the dream. The content that is manifest is the result of processing information. The latent content are hidden desires as well as other types of hallucination.

There are four mechanisms that conceal the latent dream. They are displacement, decryption transference, disguise, and decryption. The first is displacement. This happens when a dreamer transforms elements of dream with the exact elements in the dream-thoughts. It's a result of the weakness of the brain that sleeps.
